What is ear wax microsuction?
Microsuction is one of the safest ways to remove ear wax. After taking a medical history and assessing the ear canal a gentle suction device is used to remove any ear wax blockages. This suction device acts like a vacuum cleaner, helping to loosen and remove the impacted wax. Once the procedure is over, we will use a microscope to check your ears. Previously, using an ear syringe machine with water was a common way to get rid of ear wax however microsuction is a quick and much safer method. The National institute for clinical excellence (NICE) recommends this procedure, following the NICE guidelines.
About Me
I am a fully trained ear wax removal specialist, trained and assessed by an accredited Audiology training provider. I have a 42-year history of working as a Registered General Nurse in the NHS. My experience includes 17 years of practicing as a Nurse practitioner in Urgent Care and Minor injuries and illness services. I have added training in Special Educational Needs and Understanding Autism and would welcome clients who have a learning disability or who may struggle with managing the procedure.
What should you expect from your practitoner?
Your practitioner will take a brief medical history and take note of any prescribed medication. A consent form will be completed. The ear will then be examined and if safe and appropriate, the procedure can go ahead. Ear microsuction is not painful. It is a little noisy, the practitioner will demonstrate how it works prior to the treatment. Once the procedure is completed, you will be recommended to keep the ear dry for the next 2-3 days. Occasionally there is some dizziness following the procedure this should settle quickly. If this persists, contact us for advice or contact your Gp. It is important to use olive oil drops (available over the counter at your pharmacy) for 3-5 days to soften the wax prior to treatment. Do not use drops if you suspect a perforated ear drum.
Choose Best Plan
If earwax removal is unsuccessful and a return visit is needed there will be no charge for the follow up visit.
